We have released “Currents”, our point of view on ten forces we believe are reshaping Southeast Asia's food system. We wrote it to set out what we think needs to happen for the region's agrifood system to become more resilient and ready for the future. It draws on eight years of Beanstalk AgTech's work across the region, and on what we have learned from the 500+agtech ventures Monsoon Ventures has reviewed since launch.
Each current makes one dated prediction about how Southeast Asia's food system will change, for example that by 2035 hired service providers will plant, spray and harvest more of the region's rice than farming families do, or that by 2030 most agtech ventures that scale in the region will do so on blended capital. Under each one you'll find why it matters, the evidence behind it and where we see investable opportunity. Some of the forces behind these currents are outside anyone's control, but we see a role for Monsoon Ventures in shaping where they lead, by building and investing in the ventures that can turn that future into reality.
We want your view. For each current, consider whether you'd back it, contest it or amend it, and note what you would change. It will take about two minutes and we will share a summary of what we heard with everyone who responds. Your feedback and challenges will shape the next edition, and the ventures we build.
